Aston Villa are on the verge of appointing Steven Gerrard as their new manager according to football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Villa has been on the market to find a replacement for Dean Smith who was sacked over the weekend following a spate of poor results and Romano has revealed that the club has settled on Gerrard as his replacement with the paperwork already in shape.

Apart from Romano, a social media clip emerged on Wednesday claiming to show the Rangers boss arriving in London for talks with the Premier League club’s bosses.

Several reports indicate that the Scottish Premiership side is ready to do a deal for the Liverpool legend with the manager still having a running contract at Ibrox until 2024.
