Thiago Silva Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has claimed Thiago Silva and the Chelsea system is a marriage made in heaven.

The former Manchester United number five essentially applauded Chelsea’s superb defensive displays as a unit under Thomas Tuchel.

The European champions have delivered two straight cleansheets against sides that are more than capable of scoring, but nevertheless beat Leicester 3-0 and Juventus 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League.

According to Rio Ferdinand, Chelsea’s Thiago Silva in the middle of that back three has been a happy boy in his happy place.

“He had two athletes (Chalobah and Rudiger) alongside him who just want to be aggressive and get around people,” said Ferdinand on his podcast, Vibe with FIVE.

“If they manage to beat that press, they’re quick enough to get back and support Thiago Silva.

“The system absolutely helps him as well. The security of having two centre-backs not too far away from him is beautiful,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Thiago is now looking ahead to go toe to toe with the extraordinary Cristiano Ronaldo in West London this weekend.
