Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham exploded onto the scene at Borussia Dortmund in recent seasons, and now Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is the next young Englishman off the Signal Iduna Park production line.
The parallels between Bynoe-Gittens and Sancho are particularly pronounced. Both are young wingers, the former the latter’s junior by four years, and both left Manchester City at academy level to forge their early senior career in the Bundesliga.
Sancho since moved onto Manchester United in an €85 million deal last summer, and Dortmund will no doubt cash in on Bynoe Gittens in time. But for now, the Yellow Wall can look forward to enjoying his talents for a few seasons yet.
He made his pro debut in a 6-1 win over Wolfsburg in April, coming off the bench at the tender age of 17 years, eight months and nine days, and has now featured nine times in all competitions.
What position does Bynoe-Gittens play?
Like Sancho, Bynoe-Gittens is a winger who normally lines up on the right but has no problem switching flanks from where he can cut inside onto his favoured right foot.
He was even used right up front as a central striker by Dortmund in the UEFA Youth League last season, but as a 5’9″ attacker with quick feet and a low centre of gravity, his future probably lies out wide.
How good is Bynoe-Gittens?
That’s not to say Bynoe-Gittens didn’t flourish playing as a striker. He bagged six goals and five games as Dortmund got to the final of the last season’s UEFA Nations League, and had 10 goal involvements in 13 U19-Bundesliga games.
He grabbed his first senior goal as Dortmund beat Freiburg 3-1 in August, cutting inside from the right and letting fly with his left foot, but fans should be most excited about Bynoe-Gittens’ quick feet and ability to skip past opposition markers.
What clubs are interested in Bynoe-Gittens?
Bynoe-Gittens has already spurned Chelsea and Arsenal early in his burgeoning career, instead joining Reading and Man City on the path to Dortmund. The move to BVB also saw him reject Bayern Munich.
No team has since gone public with their desire to acquire Bynoe-Gittens, but it’s safe to assume most of Europe’s elite are now keeping tabs after those Youth League numbers.
