The 10 most Googled footballers in 2023

Footballers are some of the biggest celebrities in the world these days and stars from PSG, Real Madrid and Barcelona are some of the most Googled people in 2023.

Plenty of the high-profile stars in the game today have attracted a mainstream audience, you only need to look at the most followed people on Instagram to tell you that.

Thanks to the data collected by footgoal, we’ve put together a list of the most Googled footballers in 2023.

10. Luis Suarez (1.7million monthly searches)

The Uruguayan forward is arguably the best striker of his generation and he’s still as relevant as ever, even in his twilight years. Now aged 36, he’s playing out in Brazil for Gremio.

He’s still got magic in his boots.

9. Sadio Mane (1.8million monthly searches)

Mane’s popularity peaked last year when he won the Africa Cup of Nations and was a key component of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side who almost won a historic quadruple.

Since moving to Bayern Munich the Senegalese forward is still a popular player with over 1.8million monthly searches of his name on Google.

8. Gerard Pique (1.9million monthly searches)

This might have something to do with a certain Shakira song…

7. Paulo Dybala (2.2million monthly searches)

The Roma forward ended up playing a crucial role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph as his last-ditch tackle to deny Kylian Mbappe in the final took the game to penalties.

Dybala dispatched his spot kick and the rest is history. He ended his seven-year stay with Juventus in the summer to join up with Jose Mourinho at Roma.

6. Karim Benzema (2.4million monthly searches)

The current Ballon d’Or holder is a superstar both on and off the pitch. The Frenchman is Real Madrid’s sixth-highest appearance maker and is their second-highest goalscorer of all time.

Benzema is also the most searched Real Madrid footballer on Google right now, however one of his former teammates still ranks above him.

5. Robert Lewandowski (3.2 million monthly searches)

Barcelona are going well in La Liga right now and it’s not much of a surprise to learn that Lewandowski is their most Googled star. The Polish forward joined in the summer after eight prolific years with Bayern Munich.

He’s been just as prolific in Spain since his move as he’s scored 25 goals in the 31 appearances he has made for Barcelona so far.

4. Kylian Mbappe (8.5million monthly searches)

He might be the best player in the world right now, but he still has some ways to go until he becomes the most Googled footballer on the planet.

With that being said, 8.5million monthly searches is absolutely off the charts. For club and county, Mbappe has scored more goals than any other player in 22-23 with 39 so far.

3. Neymar (9.2million monthly searches)

Prior to his most recent injury, Neymar looked back to his usual self and regularly had defenders on strings. His 22-23 campaign was promptly cut short by injury, but he’s still as popular today as ever in Google’s eyes.

2. Lionel Messi (13.2million monthly searches)

The Argentine superstar continues to make the impossible look so effortless and he crowned his already stellar career with the World Cup last year. He’s also leading the way for goals and assists right now.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (17.4million monthly searches)

When it comes to online influence, CR7 is truly one of a kind. Along with being the most Googled footballer in 2023 he is also the most followed person on Instagram with a whopping 557 million followers.

Even since leaving Europe, Ronaldo has still been the talk of the town while at Al-Nassr. He’s quickly adapted to life in Saudi Arabia and we’re expecting him to break all sorts of records over the next few years.
