Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is set to have a meeting with Daniel Levy over his future following Wednesday night’s loss at Burnley.

Ben Mee’s header 20 minutes from time sunk Spurs at Turf Moor, their fourth defeat in the last five matches, exerting further pressure on the Italian.

Speaking after the match, Antonio Conte said there was no excuse for the loss, further adding that there was something wrong with the team.

“It was difficult tonight and not only tonight in the last five games we lost four games. It means there will be an assessment, an assessment about the club, about me. The club has to make an assessment, also to speak together, to understand which is the best solution,” Conte said after the game.

In a later interview, the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager had melt-down but promised to continue working to salvage the situation.

“Maybe I’m not so good,” he said. “Yes, I’m not so good. I think Tottenham called me to improve the situation, but I’m too honest to close my eyes and to continue to say, ‘okay, but I want to finish my season in this way but the salary is good’, no I’m not that type of person.

“I have ambition, I hate to lose, and we lost. I repeat, four out of the last five games, and I won’t accept this and I want to try to move the situation and to also make assessments with the club,”

Conte was appointed in November to take over the London club following Nuno Espirito’s exit.

After a good start to life in the Premier League, the wheels have come off Spurs’ run in recent weeks, with their 3-2 win over Man City the only victory in the last five matches.

They next face Leeds United in the league.
