Real Madrid may not have managed to sign Kylian Mbappe this past summer, but Karim Benzema is certain that his France teammate will become a Los Blancos player at some point.
Paris Saint-Germain were not willing to sell their star in the previous transfer window as they aim to do what it takes to renew his contract, one which runs until June 2022.
“[Mbappe] said it himself,” Karim Benzema told L’Equipe.
“He wants to see something else. Someday he will play for Real Madrid.
“I don’t know when. But he will come. It is only a matter of time.”
Benzema also believes that Real Madrid’s squad has a huge potential and stressed that he is pleased to operate as a mentor for Los Blancos’ youngsters.
“[Real Madrid] are still the best club in the world,” added Benzema.
“Reconstruction or not, it’s a new football, a new generation, new players.
“We have to invest in young people so that one day they become great footballers.
“I’m here to help them. I talk a lot with them. I want to improve them.
“When you improve others, you improve the team and you get a lot of satisfaction.”
Benzema’s Ballon d’Or chances
The Real Madrid striker is among the candidates for this year’s Ballon d’Or, but Benzema has made clear that no player should be obsessed with individual accolades because it will prevent them from contributing as much as they can to the team.
“We have to think about [the Ballon d’Or] when we are ambitious,” noted Benzema.
“But it doesn’t have to be an obsession that forces you to say that you just have to shine individually and score goals for yourself.
“If you have to win it, it’s because of who you are, what you demonstrate on the pitch and because of what you do.”
