Derby Day in Turin, a “both teams to score banker” at Molineux and a daunting trip to the Wanda Metropolitano for a beleaguered Barcelona. Let’s get right into our five picks.
🇩🇪 Dortmund vs Augsburg
Dortmund won their midweek Champions League match against Sporting Lisbon despite being without talismanic striker Erling Haaland. A loss against Mönchengladbach last time out in the Bundesliga snapped a four-match winning streak across all competitions, but BVB is heavily favoured to get a win here against an Augsburg side with just one win and two goals in six top-flight outings this term.
💶 TIP: BVB to be winning HT/FT
🏴 Wolves vs Newcastle
Wolves had the calm, composed, clinical quality of Raúl Jiménez to thank as they snatched a 1-0 win at Southampton last time out. Both Wolves and Newcastle have scored in all 12 of their prior Premier League meetings, making it the most played fixture in the competition’s history not to produce a clean sheet. Eight of those 12 matches have finished 1-1, including each of the last five in a row. After winning five of their final eight matches last term, Newcastle has failed to win any of their first six EPL assignments in 2021-22.
💶 TIP: Wolves win & both teams to score
🇫🇷 Montpellier vs Strasourg
With an average of 3.75 goals per fixture in Ligue 1, no side has offered up more goalmouth action ahead of the round than Montpellier. The majority of those goals have come at the Stade de la Mosson, with Montpellier’s home league fixtures averaging a league-high 4.25 goals per match. The last four top-flight head-to-heads between these sides have seen a penalty awarded too.
💶 TIP: Over 2.5 goals
🇮🇹 Torino vs Juventus
The Derby della Mole might have been a fixture that Juve was dreading after an indifferent start to the Serie A season, but a midweek win over European champions Chelsea will certainly breathe some new life into the camp. A shutout against the Blues notwithstanding, The Old Lady has failed to keep a clean sheet in any of its last 20 Italian top-flight matches, a sequence stretching back to March. Four of the last five Serie A editions of the Turin Derby have featured goals at both ends and there’s plenty of evidence to back that outcome again.
💶 TIP: Both teams to score
🇪🇸 Atlético Madrid vs Barcelona
The last four LaLiga meetings between Atléti and Barcelona in the Spanish capital have all featured under 2.5 goals, with neither of the two most recent editions producing goals at both ends. The sides come into this meeting off the back of contrasting Champions League results; The Rojiblancos claimed an impressive win away to AC Milan while Barca was humbled 3-0 at Benfica. It’s hard to look beyond the hosts and defending Spanish champions under Diego Simeone.
💶 TIP: Atléti win & under 3.5 goals
