Nuno Espirito Santo responds to Spurs fans who booed him

Nuno Espirito Santo says he “completely understands” why Tottenham Hotspur fans booed him and his players after they were thrashed 3-0 at home by Manchester United.

Spurs fans were enraged at manager Nuno Espirito Santo after another bad Premier League outcome and a number of his tactical decisions throughout the game.

The replacement of Lucas Moura in the 54th minute was greeted with deafening boos across the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with many believing the Brazilian had been one of the hosts’ finest performers.

Nuno Espirito Santo also had to deal with chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing,” as well as jeers during the half-time and full-time whistles.

The Portuguese insists he shares the fans’ frustrations and called on them “in a humble way” to throw their weight behind his out-of-sorts side.

“We’re not on the right track,” Nuno told Sky Sports.

“We totally understand the criticism, it’s part of football. When the team doesn’t perform, the fans suffer, the fans are not happy and they showed they are not happy.

“It’s up to us to take it, tell them that we try our best, tell them that we are sorry because we didn’t perform as we wanted. And we keep on trying and in a humble way ask them to support us all the way.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford scored to give Manchester United a well-deserved victory in north London.

Spurs were held without a shot on goal, and Nuno struggled to justify his team’s lack of threat in a dejected post-match interview.

The London side has now lost five of their last ten Premier League games, putting them in eighth place following a terrible start to the season.
