FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has insisted that they are among the title contenders despite a poor start to the season.

Barcelona finds themselves in the ninth position after seven games with 12 points, eight points behind leaders Real Sociedad, but according to the Dutchman, they will come good once some of his players recover from injuries.

“When the injured (players) recover, I am more satisfied with the squad. There are always injuries, but we were unlucky. Almost all the forwards were injured. We can compete to win the championship.

“To get the best performance you have to have all the men available. Little by little, we will get better,” Ronald Koeman said ahead of their Sunday game with Valencia.

The tactician further addressed his future at the club with claims rife that he might be shown the door should result fail to change.

“I’m used to people talking about my future, this is normal as in a big club where there are always things (happening) with the coach. It is not the first time. Last year there were also times when they talked about the coach. The president is supporting me and has made things clear.

“But a coach must-win games. I do not want to talk about the past anymore. I want to put energy into taking the game forward. I will not focus on my feelings. I try to do my best for the club.”

A win for Barca might see them move to fifth provided the teams around them don’t win games slated for Sunday.
