Chelsea are unlikely to consider a permanent transfer for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to reports.

The Blues pulled off something of a coup this summer when they obtained the Spain international’s talents on a season-long loan contract.

The 27-year-old has struggled to establish a consistent presence, with head coach Thomas Tuchel handing him just seven starts and five substitute appearances across all competitions.

Saul Niguez produced his greatest performance at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, as Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the EFL Cup.

Nonetheless, The Express reports that club management have no intention of exercising the £30 million option that becomes available at the end of 2021-22.

According to the article, the West Londoners have already identified alternative targets, while Conor Gallagher will return from his previous loan spell at Crystal Palace.
