Champions League, Europa League finals venue – Europe’s top two club competitions are into the knockout stages with teams learning their opponents following Monday’s draw.
The Europa League, however, is not straightforward as it used to be, with the competitions departing from the usual format to a new one.
Europa League format
For the first time ever, there will be a Europa League knockout round playoffs.
There are 16 teams involved in the play-offs: the eight runners-up from the UEFA Europa League group stage and the eight third-placed teams from the UEFA Champions League group stage.
The winners of the eight play-off ties advance to the UEFA Europa League round of 16 (the eight group winners have already qualified for this)
The eight play-off losers will no longer be involved in the 2021/22 European competition.
Final venue
The Europa League 2021/22 final will be hosted in Spain in Seville’s Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
Champions League venue
The Champions League final will be staged at Zenit’s 68,000-capacity Gazprom Arena.
This will be the second time Russia has hosted a Champions League final following the 2008 clash between Manchester United and Chelsea at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
Istanbul’s Attaturk stadium, which was set to host last season’s final, will now stage the 2022/23 competition with Wembley Stadium hosting the 23/24 final.
Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, which holds 75,000 spectators, will host the 2024/25 final.
