Laliga giants FC Barcelona will insert a €1bn release clause in the new contract they are set to offer young midfielder Pedri.
Pedri has been one of the most important players for Barca since last season and the club wants to protect him from joining other clubs by offering a deal that would be difficult to match by his suitors.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the new deal is expected to run until 2026 with an official announcement set to be made in the coming days.
The heavy clause in contracts is not something new at Camp Nou as the club did the same with Neymar who moved to PSG after the French giants met the €220m clause in his contract.
Barca feels Pedri is an important player for them and wants to build the midfield around him as they prepare for life post-Lionel Messi’s era.
Barcelona have reached total agreement with Pedri to extend his contract until June 2026, here we go! New deal to be signed in the next hours/days. Final clauses agreed and fixed too. ⭐️🇪🇸 #FCB
